Update:
Pusat gegaran berada sejauh 481km dari Barat Selatan Kuala Lumpur.
Kawan kawan call ... ada beberapa bangunan di Kuala Lumpur agak kecoh. Penduduk turun bangunan kerana bimbang. Anjing kat depan rumah pun menjerit jerit sejak 2, 3 hari lepas. Ingat kot nampak hantu. Tapi pemilik anjing kata .. "Tak tau."

Panggilan talipon terbaru. Penduduk rumah 2 tingkat pun terasa. Gegaran terasa jangka masa yang pendek.

The epicentre was about 50km off the coast, near the city of Padang. There are reports of damage to buildings but it is unclear if there are casualties.

However, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said it has not issued a warning for Malaysia because it believes the waves will not reach Malaysian shores.

People have evacuated some high-rise buildings in the Klang Valley, including the KL City Centre.

In the JayaOne complex here, reports came in of shaking furniture and swaying fixtures.

Menurut laporan Agensi Penyelidikan Geologikal Amerika Syarikat (USGS), gempa yang berlaku jam 5.16 petang (waktu Jakarta) di selatan Sumatera membabitkan Kuala Lumpur dengan jarak 480 kilometer dari pusat gempa; Padang, Pekanbaru dan Sibolga.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued a tsunami alert for Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Thailand, The Associated Press said. A powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale hit southern Sumatra at about 6.17pm, causing tremors all the way in peninsula Malaysia.
