RAIS DEFENDS INTERNET FILTER PLAN – malaysiakini

Information Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim today confirmed media reports that the government was considering imposing an Internet filter to block "undesirable" websites.

However, he stressed that the filter was only to stop access to pornography which was freely available online at present.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Najib Razak has firmly denied a plan to police the Internet citing technical obstacles and strong public displeasure over it, just hours after Rais Yatim confirmed a possible “green dam”.

“The government has no desire to implement Internet filtering,” the prime minister said when commenting on Rais’ remarks that the government wants to shut out smut.
